GHCI 20 Codeathon


2020 is the 11th year of Grace Hopper Celebration India (GHCI), the largest technical conference for Women in Asia. To make this milestone even more special, AnitaB.org India is organizing an exclusive Codeathon for women students from Engineering Colleges in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities of India.

This hackathon intends to reach out to our future female innovators and software engineers to ideate and build inventive and practical technological solutions for the problems that the entire nation is facing during the COVID-19 crisis.😷

Why participate ⁉️

This opportunity encourages you to use your scientific mind to develop projects that will drive social impact. Impress the judges with your skills and be recognised for your talent in the corporate world.

You will be provided with training via webinars that will guide you as you devise and build your solution for the event.

The intention of GHCI 20 Codeathon is to witness projects that aim at resolving various social and economic issues arising during the COVID-19 crises.

Themes

The problem statements for this Codeathon will be on providing solutions for post-COVID-19 life. Some of the topics that you can choose are:

  • Innovative solutions in the domain of education:

    • Education in times of social distancing

    • Improve collaboration/Video Conferencing solutions to facilitate distance learning better

    • Creative solutions to help students in the regional areas( For eg: Create a platform to provide regional content.)

    • Assistance to candidates looking for jobs

  • Innovative solutions for people with disabilities.

  • However, this is not an exhaustive list. You are free to choose a topic of your choice that pertains to the theme of providing solutions for the problems caused by COVID-19.


You also have the flexibility to choose a technology or a combination of technologies to present your solutions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • This codeathon is exclusive for women engineering students from Tier 2 or Tier 3 cities in India excluding all the IITs, IIITs, NITs, BITS, and IISc.

  • To participate in the codeathon, you must be a woman student from computing, engineering, and IT backgrounds, enrolled in the degree course.

  • 2020 graduates can participate only if they are currently not employed.

  • Your college must be located in a Tier 2 or a Tier 3 city in India. Tier 2 and 3 cities do not include Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune.

  • To participate in the codeathon, you must be a woman student from Computing, Engineering and IT backgrounds, enrolled in the degree course excluding all the IITs, IIITs, NITs, BITS, and IISc.
  • Your college must be located in a Tier 2 or a Tier 3 city in India. Tier 2 and 3 cities do not include Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune.

  • You can form a team of maximum three members or participate as an individual. Members from different branches of the same college/ institute can also form a team.
  • Inter-college teams are eligible as long as they all the team members fit the eligibility criteria.
  • All members of the team should submit proof of being a student during registration - A scanned copy of student ID in PDF form.

There is no fee to register and participate in the GHCI 20 Codeathon.

Yes, all team members can log in from their account and do application submission on Skillenza.

No, one does not need to be online for the entire duration. You can develop the application on your local system based on the given theme and submit it on Skillenza, on the specific challenge page before the deadline.

The codeathon will happen in 3 phases. Winners of each phase are eligible to participate in the subsequent phase.

  • Phase 1 – Ideation
  • Phase 2 – Build and Deploy
  • Phase 3 – Evaluations and Finale

Evaluation criteria will include novelty of the idea, complexity, clarity and details of underlying technology, feasibility, practicability, sustainability, scale of impact, user experience and potential for future work progression. For phase 2 and phase 3 thoroughness of solution implemented will be assessed through demo and presentation submitted.

Winners of Phase 1 will be eligible to participate in Phase 2 of the Codeathon. Participants need to submit a prototype for the proposed solution for phase2. Submissions should have

  • Code with a read me
  • Demo of the solution (max 3 min) -.mp3/youtube video link (upload)
  • Presentation of the Problem and Solution (upload)

Winners of each phase will receive email notifications. Details will also be published on Skillenza webpage.

The submission should be functional for the judges to review.

There is no restriction to use any language, technology stack, or libraries. You can use any of them to create your application. However, do mention the list of pre-built, or open source libraries being used.

A presentation and a video that demos your submission will be required for the final evaluation.

The developer/developers will have all rights and own the IP of the product. However, all code needs to be in the public domain (open source) for the judges to evaluate.

At Skillenza, we take cheating/plagiarism very seriously. Answers and presented projects must be original, own work of the entrants. Any case of plagiarism may result in disqualification of the participant from the Hackathon.
